Volunteer Learning Coach

Learning Coach

Learning coaches provide ongoing instructional support and encouragement to adult learners.  They have an understanding that all learners have their own goals and learn at their own pace.  We understand that some adult learners have had negative learning experiences in the past. MVCALS supports learners wanting to improve their literacy, numeracy, computer and English language skills.

All of our learning coaches must submit a criminal background/vulnerable sector check and attend a 3-hour tutor training session provided by Norquest College.

Support for Learning Coaches

The program coordinator orients and matches volunteers. Learners needs are assessed and identified by the Program Coordinator before any matches are completed. She also coordinates volunteer training workshops. The coordinator is responsible for maintaining the volunteer and student files and records and purchases program materials and resources. She is there as a resource person for both students and volunteers. Tutors are encouraged to call or email the MVCALS office to discuss problems, make suggestions and share insights.
